This image highlights the extreme growth in food production, as multitudes of women were now undertaking the roles of food packaging and preparing in factories.(1) US troops created a huge demand for spinach, which some hypothesised was a result of “Pop-eye the Sailor,” a muscly cartoon sailor sustained by spinach.(2)
